The government of Niger State has ordered the immediate closure of all public secondary schools in the state for at least the next two weeks.
Hajiya Hannatu Jibrin Salihu, the state’s Commissioner for Education, who made the disclosure said the decision was reached after an interface between the state government and officials from various security agencies.
It now means that all public schools in the state will now be shut from Friday, March 12th to Friday, March 26th, 2021.
Daily Trust reported that although 22 secondary schools (11 Day and 11 Boarding Schools) had earlier been shut, Salihu added the two weeks closure of all secondary schools was necessary to give relevant security agencies enough time and opportunity to conduct a comprehensive risk assessment.
When it’s completed, the comprehensive risk assessment will provide an all-inclusive strategies and mechanism that will restore and guarantee sustainable security and safety of students, school infrastructure, education managers and teachers in the State.
